End User Licence Agreement
Effective: 29 September 2026 · Version 1.0 · Applies to: the Dusk Lord updater (dusklord.exe) and game client (cvels3d.exe) for Windows
This EULA governs the Dusk Lord software you download and run. It adds to the Terms of Service, which govern the online game the software connects to. By downloading, installing or running the software you accept this EULA, including automatic updates. If you do not accept it, do not install the software, and delete any copy you have. A plain-text copy, EULA.txt, is installed with the game.
1.Licence grant
If you comply with this EULA and the Terms of Service, Dextrata Software Inc. grants you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to install and run the software on devices you own or control, only to play Dusk Lord Online for your own personal, non-commercial entertainment.
The software is licensed, not sold. Dextrata and its licensors keep all rights, title and interest in it and in every copy, including all intellectual property. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
2.What you may not do
Except where applicable law expressly forbids the restriction, you must not:
- Copy, publish, distribute, sell, rent, lend, sublicense or host the software, or make it available to anyone else (sharing a link to dusklord.com is fine);
- Modify, adapt, translate or make derivative works of the software;
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software, or try to discover its source code, network protocol or algorithms;
- Remove or change any copyright notice, licence file or attribution;
- Tamper with the software or its files, or get around any security, integrity, version or access check;
- Connect to the game with a modified, unofficial or emulated client, a proxy, or anything other than the unmodified official software, or run or connect to a private or unofficial server;
- Cheat: inject code into the software, read or write its memory, intercept or alter its network traffic, or use any trainer, bot, macro, script or automation that plays for you or gives you an unfair advantage;
- Use the software to build a competing product.
If you are in the European Union, nothing here restricts your rights under Articles 5 and 6 of Directive 2009/24/EC to observe, study or test the software, or to decompile it where needed for interoperability, provided you first ask us for the information at [email protected]. Nothing here limits your rights under the open-source licences in Section 6.
3.Automatic updates
You consent to automatic updates. Each time you start Dusk Lord, the updater checks our download server for a new version. If there is one, it downloads it, checks every file against a SHA-256 hash, and installs it — replacing the game and, when needed, the updater itself — without asking first. A window shows progress, and its Cancel button stops the current update.
Updates may add, change or remove features, and may be needed to keep playing. The game server may refuse a client that is out of date. We do not support earlier versions. To stop receiving updates, stop using and uninstall the software.
4.Online only, and what the software sends
The software is a client for an online game and does not work without a connection to our servers. It sends your username and password when you sign in, your moves and commands in the game, and what you write in chat, mail, the forum and the Ideas board; it receives the game world. It sends no analytics, telemetry, crash reports or hardware details. The connection to the game server is not encrypted; see the Privacy Policy, Section 7. If we stop running the servers, the software will stop working; see Terms of Service, Section 12.
5.Where it installs, and removing it
The updater installs the game in %LOCALAPPDATA%\DuskLord, together with its version record (installed.json), a log of its own activity (updater.log) and temporary downloads. The game keeps a few small settings files in %APPDATA%\DuskLord. There is no Windows installer entry: to uninstall, delete those two folders. See Cookies & Local Files.
6.Third-party and open-source components
The software includes open-source components, each licensed under its own terms, which govern that component and prevail over this EULA for it. Their names, licences and notices are in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt in the install folder and on the Attributions page. All in-game fonts, models and textures are generated by the software itself.
7.Get it from us
Download the software only from dusklord.com, or through the updater. Copies from anywhere else are unlicensed and unsupported, and may be malicious.
8.Your device
You are responsible for your hardware, operating system, graphics drivers, network and security software, and for meeting the system requirements. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for damage to, or loss of data or performance on, any device, or for driver faults, overheating, incompatibility or interference from other software. Keep backups of anything you value.
9.Term and termination
This EULA starts when you first download, install or run the software and lasts until it ends. It ends automatically if you breach it, and we may end it under the Terms of Service. When it ends you must stop using the software and delete all copies. Sections 1 (second paragraph), 2, 6, 8 and 9 to 12 survive.
10.Warranties and liability
The software is provided "as is" and "as available", with all faults and without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dextrata and its suppliers and licensors disclaim all express, implied and statutory warranties and conditions, including merchantability, merchantable quality, fitness for a particular purpose, durability, title and non-infringement, and do not warrant that the software will be error-free, secure, uninterrupted, compatible with your device, or free of harmful components.
The limitation of liability in Section 16 of the Terms of Service applies to the software and is part of this EULA. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions; where that is so, they apply to the fullest extent allowed, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer that cannot be waived.
11.Export control
You may not download, use or export the software in breach of Canadian, US or other applicable export control or sanctions laws.
12.Governing law and general
This EULA is governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The dispute terms in Section 19 of the Terms of Service, including arbitration, the class action waiver and their consumer carve-outs, apply to it. This EULA, the Terms of Service and the policies they include are the whole agreement about the software. If a provision is unenforceable it is changed to the minimum extent needed, or removed, and the rest continues. We may change this EULA as described in Terms of Service, Section 22. You may not transfer this EULA; we may.
